Former minister’s son declared fugitive, ED takes action

Date:

The son of a former Punjab minister has been declared a fugitive by the court. According to the information, the special court of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has declared Harpreet Singh, son of former Punjab Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, a fugitive. This action has been taken under the money laundering case registered in 2024, in which Harpreet has not appeared in court for the last 4 months.

The court has also sought details of Harpreet Singh’s properties, so that confiscation proceedings can be initiated under Section 83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). According to the court, a proclamation was issued against Harpreet Singh on March 28, 2025, but he did not appear within the statutory period of 30 days. On this basis, the court declared him a fugitive. The police have been directed to take all necessary action in this regard.

Notice pasted, preparation for property seizure
A copy of the court order was pasted at Harpreet Singh’s house, Ward No. 6, Annieh Road, Amloh, Fatehgarh Sahib. One copy was put up at a public place and the third copy on the notice board of Mohali Court. The next hearing date has been fixed as August 19, 2025.

ED has already arrested the father
It is worth noting that Harpreet Singh’s father, former minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, was arrested by the ED on 16 January 2024 in the same case. He is accused of illegally acquiring property worth crores by doing corruption in the Forest Department. At present, he is out on bail. Dharamsot was the Minister of Forest and Social Welfare in the Captain Amarinder Singh government in the year 2017. After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government came to power, the Vigilance Bureau started an investigation against him. The investigation revealed huge financial irregularities in the Forest Department, after which he was arrested on 7 June 2022. Later this FIR became the basis of ED’s investigation.
