instructions for immediate action After reports of extremely pitiable and worrying condition of children and their families begging near Derabassi flyover, Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur took immediate cognizance and issued strict orders for the rescue and rehabilitation of these children. According to the report received from the concerned area, these children and their families are living in unsafe and filthy open spaces.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said that these children are becoming victims of exploitation and their safety is the top priority of the government. She has immediately directed the officials of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Child Protection Units and the District Administration to immediately launch a special rescue campaign in the said area. Immediately arrangements will be made for housing, food, medical facilities and education for the rescued children.
Along with this, Dr. Baljit Kaur has also instructed the officials of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department of all other districts of the state to take situations like Derabassi seriously and immediately start special campaigns for identification, rescue and rehabilitation of children begging in their respective districts. This campaign should be run continuously and with commitment under Project Jeevanjot-2 Bachpan Bachao so that children can be stopped from begging from every corner of Punjab.
