A tragic accident took place with the pilgrims returning from Mani Mahesh. The car of Punjab pilgrims returning from Mani Mahesh Yatra met with a major accident last night in Bharmour of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. According to the information received, the Swift car (PB-03-AL-1138) fell into the Ravi river, killing 2 pilgrims on the spot, one is missing and 2 are seriously injured. The injured pilgrims were immediately admitted to Chamba Hospital. The injured have been identified as Mal Singh (age 36) son of Balwinder and Bunty (age 19) son of Gurjeet. All the pilgrims were residents of Khanuri village and Mandi Monak area of Sangrur district of Punjab. The body of one of the deceased was found inside the car, while the other body was recovered in Darwala area, about 15 km from the incident site. NDRF, Home Guard and Police teams are conducting search operation to find the missing devotee.
Police said that the accident happened at around 1.30 pm near Dhai Devi temple of Durgathi on Pathankot-Bharmaur National Highway. The devotees were returning from Mani Mahesh Yatra. Meanwhile, their car went out of control and fell 250 meters down in the gorge and reached the river directly. During the collision, 2 people fell out of the car and were seriously injured. Initial investigation has revealed that the car driver tried to save a dog that suddenly came on the road, due to which the vehicle lost control and this horrific accident happened. The process of identifying the dead is going on.
