The water level in Bhakra Dam has increased by 1 foot in the last 24 hours, which has increased the concern of B.B.M.B. as well as the Punjab Government. However, on Tuesday, 7 thousand cusecs of water was released in excess of normal days, making a total of 45 thousand cusecs of water released.
This additional water forced the Satluj, which was already in spate, to roar and water started entering many new villages of Nangal, Ropar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur and Ludhiana districts. According to official information, the danger mark in the Gobind Sagar Lake, the reservoir of Bhakra Dam, is at 1680 feet and on Wednesday the water level of the lake crossed 1666 feet.
According to government records, the water level of the lake was estimated to be 1665.06 feet on Tuesday, which was 1632.15 feet on August 20 last year. On 20th August, the inflow of water in Gobind Sagar lake is 58671 cusecs, whereas last year this inflow was 43569 cusecs. On 20th August, 40392 cusecs of water is being released in Bhakra Dam, whereas on 20th August last year, 25216 cusecs of water was being released from the dam.
