The water in Satluj, Beas and Ravi rivers is overflowing. The water in various dams of Punjab including Bhakra, Gobind Sagar Lake, Pong Dam is constantly increasing which is becoming an alarm bell. Due to floods, the record of 37 years has been broken in many areas of Punjab. Such a severe flood situation is being seen for the first time after 1988. Keeping in view the safety of the dams, water is being released continuously due to which villages have been submerged in water.
The situation is very bad in many districts adjoining Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir, near the border zone (Amritsar). Hundreds of trains on the Jammu route have been affected. The situation is such that people in many districts have been forced to leave their homes. If the rain continues, the situation may worsen in the coming days.
