The continuous heavy rain has halted the pace of the city. Due to the rain that has been continuing for the last six hours, many areas have been flooded and power supply has also been disrupted at some places. The situation is such that water entered many houses, due to which people’s household goods were also damaged. People and shopkeepers who went out to work in the morning had to face a lot of difficulties. However, schools were already closed, which has given some relief to the parents. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has appealed to the people not to panic. All the teams of the administration are deployed on the field and the situation is being constantly monitored. In case of any problem or emergency, citizens can contact the helpline number 0181-2240064.
In view of the rain and public interest, Dr. Agarwal has declared a holiday in all the colleges of the district today, September 1. The weather department has issued a red alert in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Patiala and Ropar districts and there is a possibility of change in the weather after September 3.
