The flood situation in Punjab has completely worsened. The death toll due to floods in Majha and Doaba has risen to 36. 7 people died due to heavy rains in Hoshiarpur, out of which 4 people died due to the collapse of the roof of the house, while 3 people drowned in the flood waters due to continuous rain. On this tragedy, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the affected families.
The Punjab government has released information about a total of 36 people dying from 1 August to 1 September due to floods. According to the data released, 3 people died in Amritsar, 3 in Barnala, 1 in Bathinda, 1 in Gurdaspur, 7 in Hoshiarpur, 3 in Ludhiana, 3 in Mansa, 6 in Pathankot, 1 in Patiala, 3 in Ropar, 1 in S.A.S. 1 person has died in Nagar and 1 in Sangrur. 3 persons are still missing in Pathankot, whose search is going on. At present, 12 districts of Punjab are in the grip of floods. These include Amritsar, Barnala, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Mansa, Moga, Pathankot and S.A.S. Nagar. Floods have badly affected 1044 villages of Punjab. These include 88 villages of Amritsar, 24 of Barnala, 72 of Fazilka, 76 of Ferozepur, 321 of Gurdaspur, 94 of Hoshiarpur, 55 of Jalandhar, 115 of Kapurthala, 77 of Mansa, 39 of Moga and 82 of Pathankot.
After Majha and Doaba, now floods are preparing to wreak havoc in Malwa region through Ghaggar river. The flood gates of Sukhna Lake have been opened for the third time. On the other hand, due to heavy rains in Shivalik Hills and Chandigarh, more than 26 thousand cusecs of water has been released into the Ghaggar river, due to which the water level of Ghaggar has reached the danger mark. The situation is very critical in village Lachhru Kalan, which comes under Ghanaur Assembly constituency of Patiala district. More than 300 soil sacks have been sent to the spot in 3 trolleys to strengthen the weak banks of the Ghaggar river. Similarly, the water level of the Ghaggar river near the Ramnagar barrier on the Punjab-Haryana border is only 3 inches below the danger mark, due to which there is an atmosphere of panic in the areas of Punjab and Haryana.
