Due to heavy rains, the flow of water in the Sutlej river has increased, due to which the Jalandhar administration has issued an advance advisory sensing the danger of flood. The District Collector (DC) has said that there is a possibility of waterlogging in Phillaur and some surrounding areas within the next 12 to 14 hours. He has appealed to the people to remain calm and follow the instructions given by the administration.
The DC said that due to continuous rain for the last few hours, the water of rivers and drains is rapidly flowing into the Sutlej. This may affect Phillaur and surrounding villages. He said that although the possibility of water coming is very low, but it is possible that due to the fast flow in the Sutlej, some areas may get flooded. At present, administrative teams are maintaining vigilance in all the affected areas and are constantly monitoring the dams.
In view of the flood, many relief centers have also been set up in the city, where needy people can take shelter safely. The DC has requested all citizens to avoid going to dangerous areas such as river banks, drains and bridges and if the administration instructs to go to a safe place, then follow it.
The administration has also informed that relief and rescue work will be started immediately for any kind of emergency. The DC said, “People do not need to panic, but it is important to remain alert. All our teams and departments are constantly monitoring the flood situation and will immediately carry out relief and rescue work if needed.” The DC said that if the administration advises you to go to higher places, then immediately go to higher places. At the same time, the responsibility of your animals and other belongings will be of the administration.
