In order to control the ever-increasing road accidents, as directed by Rupnagar District Police Chief Dr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, IPS, on Wednesday, the Rupnagar District Traffic Police and Kiratpur Sahib Traffic Police set up a special checkpoint in village Dadhi on the Chandigarh main road, installing speedometers, and issued challans to drivers violating traffic rules. The District Police Education Cell, Rupnagar, also provided information regarding various traffic rules, raising awareness among drivers.
ASI Balwant Singh, Traffic Incharge, Kiratpur Sahib, and ASI Sukhdev Singh, Incharge of the District Police Education Cell, stated that, in accordance with the directives of higher officials, they issued challans to approximately three dozen drivers for overspeeding and other traffic violations during the checkpoint today. He said that it is often observed that drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit cause many tragic road accidents, during which many innocent people lose their lives.
With this in mind, the District Traffic Police, in collaboration with the local traffic police, is periodically conducting blockades at various locations. Drivers are also made aware of the importance of following traffic rules and are instructed to strictly follow them, so that no road accidents occur due to driver negligence. ASI Didar Singh, ASI Ajay Kumar, and ASI Kamaljit Singh were present on the occasion.
