In view of the current growing issues regarding migrants in Punjab, a large-scale Panchayat meeting was held in Katani Kalan village, which falls under the Sahnewal Assembly constituency. Several important decisions were made at this meeting regarding migrants and other local issues.
In the presence of all the villagers, it was announced that migrants and other outsiders living in the village, including those living on rent, must leave the village by October 15, 2025. Additionally, the use of plastic bags in shops in the village will be completely banned. Shopkeepers who disobey the order will be fined ₹5,000. The Panchayat also decided, with the public’s consent, that those selling or supplying any kind of intoxicant in the village must reform by October 15, or their names will be publicly announced.
In addition, several other important issues were also discussed at the Panchayat. The most pressing issue was the issue of migrants and outside tenants living in the village. The decision was applauded by villagers, while some expressed opposition.
