Issuing the order, Additional District Magistrate Pooja Syal Grewal stated that under Section 163 of the Indian Standards Code, a complete ban is being imposed on the movement of heavily overloaded heavy vehicles/tippers on the Kalma-Nurpurbedi-Rupnagar route. She stated that it has been brought to the district administration’s attention that overloaded tipper trucks engaged in mining operations in Rupnagar district are being transported via the Kalma-Nurpurbedi-Rupnagar route.
The Kalma-Nurpurbedi-Rupnagar route is crisscrossed by a large number of villages and inhabited by a large number of people. Furthermore, several schools are located along this route, with students traveling to and from school using this route. The movement of overloaded tipper trucks has previously caused numerous accidents, impacting law and order.
He said that due to the dense winter fog and heavy traffic of tipper trucks on this road, new accidents occur daily. The possibility of a major accident cannot be ruled out in the coming days, which could result in loss of life and property and impact law and order. As demanded by the public, strict action is being taken against these overloaded tipper trucks and their movement is being banned from the Kalma-Nurpurbedi-Rupnagar route and from Pachranda Mor to Sri Anandpur Sahib. These orders will remain in effect until November 24, 2025.
