Overspeeding and crossing red lights will prove costly!

Date:

These main intersections are equipped with high-tech CCTV cameras. Violating traffic rules in the city could now prove costly, as Jalandhar Police have begun monitoring vehicles on city roads through high-tech CCTV cameras. This simply means that if a driver violates a traffic rule—such as crossing a red light, driving recklessly, or overspeeding—an e-challan will be sent directly to their mobile number. According to reports, PAP Chowk, BSF Chowk, BMC Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and Nakodar Chowk, Football Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, Maharishi Valmiki Chowk, Guru Amardas Chowk, Workshop Chowk, Dr. Ambedkar Chowk, Model Town, and Chunmun Chowk have been equipped with high-tech CCTV cameras, allowing traffic violators to be issued challans from the comfort of their homes. Zebra lines have also been clearly drawn at all these locations to ensure traffic rule compliance.

Warning city residents, the traffic police stated that this system is fully automated and can now detect violations without the need for patrolling. Police officials stated that this new technology will increase road discipline and reduce the likelihood of accidents.

How does this system work?

Under this high-tech system, cameras have been installed at major intersections and junctions throughout the city. When a vehicle violates the rules, the camera immediately captures its image. This image, along with complete vehicle information, is sent to the control room. Operators in the control room check and verify the data. After the verification process is complete, this information is sent to the NIC portal. The vehicle’s registration number is checked on the portal to trace the owner’s registered mobile number. An e-challan is then sent directly to that mobile number. This means that whether a traffic policeman stops you on the road or not, the camera will keep a close eye on your every mistake.

Specifically, if a driver crosses a red light, the camera immediately captures a photo of their vehicle. A detailed table of all violating vehicles is then created in the control room. The operator verifies this list, and only then is the data updated on the NIC portal. Police officials say this system will not only facilitate monitoring of violations but also increase traffic compliance. Furthermore, this technology ensures transparency and accountability, as any challan will be sent directly to the vehicle owner’s mobile phone, eliminating human interference.

This new technology will now require drivers to change their behavior. To avoid crossing red lights, overspeeding, or any other traffic violation, there is now strict monitoring and instant e-challans.

The police say that in the future, cameras will be installed at more intersections, bringing all major roads and junctions in the city under complete traffic surveillance. Furthermore, this system will also be helpful in reporting traffic violations and accidents in the city. Jalandhar residents will now have to exercise extreme caution when driving. No matter what time you’re on the road, cameras will monitor your every move, and any violations will result in immediate action.
