Under the leadership of Punjab State Power Corporation Chief Engineer Jagdev Singh Hans, various teams of departmental officers and employees have taken swift action against defaulting consumers of the electricity department, dealing them a significant blow. According to data released by the department, during the current month of October, the electricity department has disconnected the power connections of 2,525 defaulting consumers and recovered ₹18.56 crore. Outstanding outstanding bills have been recovered.
According to information, teams of departmental officers and employees, led by Chief Engineer Jagdev Singh Hans, Deputy Chief Engineer East Circle Surjit Singh, and Chief Engineer West Kulwinder Singh, conducted operations in four divisions of the East Circle, five divisions of the West Circle, Khanna, Amloh, Doraha, Sirhind of the Khanna Circle, and Raikot, Lalton, Adda Dakha, Ahmedgarh, and Jagraon areas of the Suburban Circle, covering the urban areas of Ludhiana district. They successfully recovered a substantial amount of Rs 18.56 crore, including disconnecting 2,525 power connections, to teach a lesson to defaulting consumers.
Providing information regarding the matter, Chief Engineer Jagdev Singh Hans, SE East Surjit Singh, and SE West Kulwinder Singh stated that the department has been repeatedly appealing to defaulting consumers to deposit their outstanding electricity bills. For this, the Punjab State Power Corporation has been crediting the consumers’ accounts with electricity bills. The option of paying outstanding bills in installments has been provided, but despite this, action is being taken to disconnect the electricity meters of defaulting consumers who are still unresponsive. In response to a question, officials clarified that if any neighbor or relative is found to be supplying electricity to the homes, businesses, and factories of defaulting consumers whose connections have been disconnected by the department, strict action will be taken against them. The outstanding electricity bill amount will be recovered from the respective neighbor or relative, and a case will be registered for illegal power supply.

142 cases of power theft detected
In another case, the Punjab State Power Corporation detected 142 cases of power theft. Taking action against these consumers, officials imposed a fine of ₹3.5 million. During inspections by PowerCom department officials and employees, consumers were found misusing electricity in 287 cases. Chief Engineer Jagdev Singh Hans is pursuing a strategy to take police action against the accused under the Electricity Theft Act.
