The Food Safety Team, Ludhiana, conducted a major raid in the Payal area today. During an on-the-spot inspection, the team intercepted a vehicle carrying sweets from Chandigarh, which was destined for various sweet shops in the Payal area. The inspection revealed that the quality of the sweets in the vehicle was questionable. The entire consignment was seized on the spot and taken into police custody.
The seized sweets included approximately 3 quintals of milk cake, 210 kilograms of khoya barfi, 50 kilograms of laddus, 5 kilograms of dhodas, and 10 kilograms of rasgullas. A total of five samples have been sent to the State Food Laboratory for testing. Further legal action will be taken based on the report.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur stated that the Health Department is strictly monitoring food adulteration during this festive season and strict action will be taken against those violating the rules. The Food Safety Department, Ludhiana has also appealed to the consumers to pay special attention to hygiene and quality while purchasing sweets or other food items, and to buy food items only from licensed shops, so that they can protect the health of themselves and their families.
