Thousands of families in Punjab are beaming with renewed hope these days. The reason is the approval of 30,000 new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 (Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme 2.0) in the state. In the last seven months, more than 60,000 people have applied for this scheme, which shows the immense trust people have in it. According to government data, since August 5, 2022, 70,568 families will receive financial assistance for their homes. A large number of these families are those who have been struggling for years to build their dream home.
How to Avail the Benefits of the Scheme?
The benefits of the scheme will be available only to those whose annual income is less than three lakh rupees. Such families will receive Rs 1.5 lakh from the central government and Rs 50,000 from the state government for house construction. The remaining amount will be arranged by the beneficiary. In addition, Rs 75,000 will be given in installments according to the stage of house construction. This amount will be directly deposited into their bank accounts to prevent any middlemen or brokers from interfering.
Local Bodies Department Conducting Survey
The Local Bodies Department is conducting a survey of those who want to build a house under this scheme.
• The department will also help in correcting any errors in the application.
• After the survey, the final list of eligible people will be prepared.
• The implementation of the scheme will be expedited by August 2024.
