Discontent has erupted within the Punjab Congress after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) released a new list of 27 District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs. Several senior leaders are reportedly unhappy with the selection process and will decide their next course of action after the results of the Tarn Taran by-election.
Several leaders allege that the recommendations of senior leaders Pratap Singh Bajwa and Charanjit Singh Channi have been ignored in the new list, and that most of the names are those of close associates of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief. Some leaders have alleged that ineligible individuals have also been included in the DCC.
PPCC President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has issued a clarification regarding this matter. He says the selection process was based on the recommendations of AICC observers and he had no role in it. There are also complaints of caste imbalance in the new list, which includes 11 Jat, 2 OBC, and 5 Dalit leaders. Disgruntled leaders say that caste balance and eligibility criteria have been ignored.
