A prisoner brought to Sector 32 hospital for treatment escaped from police surveillance. The escaped prisoner has been identified as Sonu (29), convicted of raping and murdering a 5-year-old girl.
According to reports, Sonu was brought from Ludhiana Central Jail to the Government Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh, for treatment due to illness. Late at night, Sonu pretended to go to the restroom and pushed a police officer on duty and escaped. It is reported that Sonu was sentenced to death by the Ludhiana District Court in 2025.
Police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Officials stated that special teams have been formed to apprehend the prisoner as soon as possible, and the search is ongoing with the help of CCTV footage.
