Police in Derabassi have achieved a major breakthrough in busting an interstate counterfeit currency racket, seizing fake and banned currency worth ₹99.9 million (99.9 million) that astonished even the police. Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans stated that two individuals were arrested during the operation.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sachin, a resident of Bharat Nagar, Kurukshetra (Haryana), and Gurdeep, a resident of Gurdev Nagar, Kurukshetra (Haryana). The SSP stated that intelligence was received regarding the activities of two suspects linked to an interstate counterfeit currency racket. Acting immediately, special teams were formed under the supervision of SP Rural Manpreet Singh and DSP Derabassi Bikramjit Singh Brar.
Teams led by Inspector Sumit Mor (Station House Officer, Derabassi) and Inspector Malkit Singh (In-charge, Anti-Narcotics Cell) set up a checkpoint near the Ghaggar Bridge on the old Ambala-Kalka Highway. Suspects travelling in a white Scorpio were intercepted and genuine banned currency worth Rs 11,05,000 and counterfeit currency worth Rs 9.88 crore was recovered.
