The government is preparing to merge 35 villages under Mohali district with Rupnagar district, which is facing ongoing opposition. People fear that land prices in these villages will drop after being included in Rupnagar district. Residents said that these villages are very close to Kharar and Mohali, while Rupnagar city is about 50 km away.
They said that after the villages of Mohali district are included in Rupnagar district, land prices in the villages will fall and the existing property business will also decline. Instead of traveling a few kilometers for work, people in the area will have to travel many kilometers. Work that can be done in a few hours will cost them their entire daily wages. They said that if this decision is not reversed, they will be forced to launch a fierce struggle.

Actually, the Punjab government is preparing to make Sri Anandpur Sahib a district. Under this, several dozen villages of Rupnagar district are being included in Sri Anandpur Sahib district, and to maintain Rupnagar district, there is talk of merging some villages of Kharar tehsil with Rupnagar district. Traffic was also blocked in Kharar yesterday in protest against this. It is being reported that 35 villages of Gharuan Kanungoi are likely to be included in Rupnagar district. People say that the administration neither talked to the people of the concerned villages nor took their opinion, which is a blatant injustice to these people.
