News of a heartbreaking tragedy is emerging for Punjabi families living in Canada. Four members of a family from Gurm village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, living in Brampton, were burned alive in a massive fire. The family had been living in Canada for the past few years.
According to reports, the incident occurred about a week ago. Harinder Kaur, Annu, Gurjit Kaur, and a two-year-old child were burned alive in the fire. Happy Shankar, a close relative of the family, said that Jugraj Singh managed to escape the house at the time of the accident. His wife, Arshveer Kaur, who was pregnant, jumped from a rooftop to escape the flames and survived. However, her unborn child died in the accident. As soon as news of the deaths reached the village, mourning descended on the entire area. Villagers said the family was extremely hardworking and involved in farming. Everyone wept as they remembered their dreams of a better future.
Relatives living in Punjab were shocked to hear the news and immediately left for Brampton, Canada. No decision has yet been made regarding the funeral, as Canadian agencies are investigating the matter. This tragic incident has come as a huge shock not only to the family but to the entire village.
