During a trap set by the rural police in an area adjacent to the India-Pakistan border, two brothers were arrested and two and a half kg of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
The two were apprehended following an alert issued by intelligence agencies. The arrested accused have been identified as Yuvraj and Akashdeep. This operation by the rural police was conducted under the supervision of the Gharinda police station. This information was given today by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said that both brothers were residents of Ranike village.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that both brothers were in contact with their handler based in Pakistan. Currently, the police have taken both accused on police remand for investigation on the court’s orders. Border Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Sandeep Goyal said that both the arrested brothers were conspiring to carry out a terrorist attack to disrupt the peace and communal harmony of Punjab.
