In the near future, branded food outlets, modeled after airports, will be opened at major railway stations across the country. These will be premium-branded catering outlets, providing passengers with their favorite food while also boosting railway revenue.
To this end, the Railway Board has written to the General Managers of each zone so that they can make arrangements at major railway stations in their respective divisions. According to information received, the Board had offered premium-branded catering outlets to the Railway Ministry, stating that similar to the stalls of branded companies available for passengers arriving at airports, similar branded outlets should be opened at railway stations to provide people with their favorite food.
Outlets will be allotted through e-tendering.
With the opening of branded outlets, rail passengers will be able to access pizza, burgers, and other food items. The zonal general manager will be able to grant permission to companies that meet the railway rules and conditions to open outlets at railway stations. For this purpose, the department will conduct bidding through e-tendering. Only the company that offers the highest bid for space at the station will be permitted to open the outlet, and will be able to operate for approximately five years. Previously, according to railway rules, only three types of stalls were permitted at railway stations: tea, biscuits, or other small snacks, dairy products, and fruit juice stalls, which are still in operation. However, now, given the increasing inclination of travelers to branded outlets, the rules have been amended and efforts are underway to open new stalls.
