The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the police custody of Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate in the Tarn Taran by-election. The court ordered that she remain in judicial custody instead of police remand, and a hearing will be held in the Tarn Taran court tonight at 8 p.m. This has brought relief to the Akali Dal, but the party has termed it an act of political vendetta by the AAP government.
Kanchanpreet Kaur, the wife of foreign-based gangster Amritpal Singh Bath, was arrested yesterday (November 28) by the Punjab Police. According to the police, she created a ruckus during the election and violated the Model Code of Conduct. She was previously implicated in four cases, but the Amritsar and Tarn Taran courts had granted her bail in three of them.
