The debate turned heated when an opposition lawmaker questioned Ramkisoon’s Hindi proficiency, prompting him to take the floor and deliver a confident, note-free speech in the language. His fluency and command of Hindi not only silenced his opponents but also won hearts across Guyana and India.

Ramkisoon requested the Speaker’s permission to respond in Hindi, directly addressing the opposition member by name. He issued a bold challenge adding that the debate could be held on any television channel and would be conducted entirely in Hindi, without reading from notes or papers.

‘Vishey woh tay karein, main jawab dunga bina Kagaz dekhey’ (They decide the topic, I will respond without using a paper), he said.
