In Haryana, various departments and agencies are working rapidly to promote solar energy, uplift the agricultural sector, and provide benefits to the residential and industrial (commercial) sectors. These entities include the DNRE and HAREDA, as well as the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).
A spokesperson for the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam stated that Haryana ranks among the leading states in the country in the field of solar energy. Furthermore, in terms of solar pump installations, the state has secured the second position nationwide, following Maharashtra. Notably, Haryana has set a target to install rooftop solar plants on 220,000 households by the year 2026–27. Under the ‘PM-Surya Ghar’ scheme, 61,875 rooftop solar plants have already been installed across the state to date.
The spokesperson further explained that farmers, common citizens, and industrialists across the state are all reaping significant benefits through solar energy—saving on hefty electricity bills, selling surplus electricity units back to the grid, and securing financial gains through various schemes launched by both the Central and State governments. The UHBVN spokesperson highlighted that, alongside the Central government’s ‘PM-Surya Ghar’ scheme, the Haryana State government is also providing additional financial assistance—in the form of supplementary subsidies—to ‘Antyodaya’ families and specific special categories. Additionally, the State government has introduced a Solar Energy Incentive Scheme, under which residential consumers have been broadly categorized into three distinct groups. Consequently, beneficiaries enjoy a reduction of up to 90 percent in their electricity bills and receive free electricity for a period of up to 25 years.
Financial Assistance for Non-Defaulter Antyodaya Consumers
In addition to other forms of financial aid, the existing state-level financial assistance scheme for ‘Antyodaya’ families has been further streamlined and made more attractive. Antyodaya consumers with an annual income of up to ₹1.80 lakh—provided they have no outstanding electricity bills and their annual consumption is less than 2,400 units—are eligible for state financial assistance of ₹25,000 or 40 percent of the actual cost (whichever is lower) for the installation of a rooftop solar plant with a capacity of up to 2 kW.
