A Haryana-based family’s dream of a “golden future” turned into tragedy when their young son was shot dead in Georgia, USA. The death of this young man—who had crossed the seven seas just 24 months ago in search of a brighter future—has once again raised serious questions regarding the safety of Indians living abroad.
According to reports, the incident took place in the state of Georgia, where unidentified assailants targeted the young man. While it remains unclear whether the incident occurred during an attempted robbery or was a racially motivated attack, local police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. The young man had arrived in the US just two years ago, driven by dreams of improving his family’s financial situation and building a successful career.
News of the tragedy plunged the youth’s ancestral village in Haryana into deep mourning. His family members are inconsolable with grief. Villagers described the young man as extremely hardworking, noting that he had set foot on foreign soil with high hopes and aspirations. The bereaved family has appealed to the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to make arrangements for the repatriation of their son’s mortal remains to India as soon as possible.
The local Indian Consulate General has been apprised of the matter. It is hoped that the Consulate will work in coordination with local authorities to assist the family in apprehending the culprits and expediting the legal proceedings.
