Following raids conducted a few days ago by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Local Bodies, Punjab—along with his team—regarding illegal buildings and colonies in Jalandhar, enforcement action now appears to be intensifying. The CVO’s office has written to the Commissioner of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, requesting records for all buildings covered under the ongoing investigation. According to reports, the CVO’s team recently conducted inspections of over a hundred illegal structures across the city.
During this exercise, the majority of the buildings inspected were found to have been constructed illegally. Complaints regarding these structures had been lodged by RTI activist Karanpreet. Relevant officials from the Municipal Corporation, as well as the complainant, were present at the sites during the raids. Although the team returned to Chandigarh after the inspections, the letter subsequently sent by the CVO’s office to the Municipal Corporation directs that complete records for all buildings involved in the investigation be submitted by April 17, 2026. A list of the relevant buildings has also been attached to the letter. According to sources, instructions have been issued to submit these records through the respective Building Inspectors or Assistant Town Planners (ATPs). This initiative is being viewed as a strict measure against illegal construction, and it is anticipated that the Municipal Corporation may soon launch a sealing or demolition drive
