Employees and doctors at the ESI Dispensary in the town of Dhariwal, Gurdaspur, are distressed by a spate of continuous thefts. Just a few days ago, thieves broke down the doors to gain entry and stole various iron fixtures. The dispensary was plagued by persistent thefts throughout the previous year as well; however, the situation reached a breaking point last night when thieves stole absolutely everything—including aluminum door frames, electrical wiring, fans, faucets, syringes, and medicines. The situation has become so dire that, due to the theft of electrical wiring, the medicines stored in the dispensary’s refrigerator are now spoiling. Furthermore, the staff has expressed apprehension that the refrigerator itself could be stolen next, and have therefore demanded the permanent deployment of security personnel at the facility. The doctor in charge has already apprised senior health officials of the theft incident in an effort to exert pressure on the police to take action. It is worth noting that despite the police having been informed about the recent theft—as well as the thefts that occurred last year—no action has been taken thus far; consequently, the Health Department overseeing the dispensary reportedly conveyed the details of last night’s theft to the police through their own senior officials.
