6 Dead in Road Accidents in Bathinda; Chaos Ensues

Date:

On the Bathinda-Dabwali National Highway, near a petrol pump close to Machana village, three young men riding a motorcycle were killed in a head-on collision with a car. Meanwhile, five other people—including three women—sustained serious injuries and were transported via ambulance to AIIMS Hospital in Bathinda. In a separate incident, a car collided with a Tempo Traveller while the occupants were returning from a *Jagrata* (night vigil). This accident claimed the lives of a mother, her son, and her grandson, while her daughter sustained injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Haryana. Swaranjit Singh (son of Sukha Singh, a resident of Mallwala), Vicky Singh (son of Major Singh), and Prem Singh (son of Prakash Singh, a resident of Gurusar Sainewala) were returning to their respective villages last evening after offering prayers at the historic temple located in Jassi Bagwali village.

It was at this moment that they turned their motorcycle onto the wrong side of the Bharat Mala Road, whereupon a speeding car approaching from Bathinda collided with their bike. All three youths on the motorcycle sustained critical injuries in this accident, while five occupants of the car—including three women—were also injured. Upon receiving information about the incident, ASI Sandeep Singh of the Road Safety Force arrived at the scene with a police team; they removed both vehicles and restored the flow of traffic. The injured were transported by ambulance to AIIMS Hospital, where the three youths riding the motorcycle succumbed to their severe injuries. The Sangat Police are currently taking legal action against the car driver based on the statements provided by the families of the deceased.

Meanwhile, in the second accident, a mother, her son, and her grandson lost their lives, while her daughter sustained injuries. The family had organized a prayer gathering just the day before to celebrate the birth of the grandson; however, the very next day, the household was plunged into mourning. Amar (22)—son of Rajinder Kumar (alias Pappu)—and his mother, Nirmala Devi (50)—wife of Rajinder Kumar—had traveled to Haryana to attend a *Jagrata* hosted at their daughter’s in-laws’ residence to celebrate the birth of their grandson. After the Jagrata, when the parents began their return to Pakka Kalan village, their daughter and grandson accompanied them. Near Fatehabad, their car collided with a Tempo Traveller.
