Following the expiration of his previous police remand, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra—the MLA representing the Sanaur constituency—was produced in court today amidst tight security arrangements. The court subsequently remanded him to police custody for an additional seven days. Prior to this, Pathanmajra had been held on a four-day police remand; he was presented before the court again upon the conclusion of that period. Meanwhile, the police have also taken his passport into their custody.
The police are currently investigating the rape case and are simultaneously working to trace his movements following his escape from police custody. Specifically, they are seeking to determine whether he traveled abroad—and if so, with whose assistance—and which individuals aided him in his escape. The police intend to conduct interrogations covering all these aspects of the case.
It is pertinent to note that in September 2025, the Civil Lines Police Station had registered a case of rape against Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra based on a complaint filed by a woman. At that time, he had managed to escape from police custody. On March 25, the Patiala Police claimed to have arrested him from an area near Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
