Various religious and social organizations have intensified their struggle, demanding justice regarding the desecration of a religious symbol of the Sikh faith in the village of Pattar Kalan, Kartarpur. During a joint meeting held on Sunday, a decision was reached that if the administration fails to take action, the Amritsar-Jalandhar Highway in Kartarpur will be blocked on April 8th. On this occasion, when Gurpreet Singh Cheeda—a leader of the Rural Labor Union Punjab (Youth Wing)—proposed the highway blockade to the protesters, everyone raised their hands in unanimous agreement. Several leaders were present at the meeting, including Kashmir Singh Ghugshor; Balwinder Bugga of the Ambedkar Sena Punjab; Veer Kumar of the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha; Mahinder Singh Hamira of the Valmiki Mazhabi Sikh Morcha; Jassi of the Adivasi Guru Gyan Nath Sangharsh Dal; and Dr. Harjinder Mattu, Vice President of the Dr. Ambedkar Sangharsh Morcha. Additionally, representatives from Nihang Singh organizations—including Baba Ravipal Singh (of Sri Anandpur Sahib), Baba Hira Singh, and other prominent figures—also participated.
The leaders alleged that the administration has adopted a policy of “wearing down” the protesters and remains a mere spectator to the situation. They stated that since April 2nd, hundreds of men and women have been staging a round-the-clock sit-in on the link road outside the police station; yet, even on this fourth day, the administration remains unmoved. The act of officials locking the main gate of the police station—thereby barring entry to the general public—demonstrates the administration’s misguided attitude. Speaking on the occasion, Sarabjit Singh, Manga Singh, Vicky Pattar, and Sunny Singh also addressed the gathering, issuing a stern warning of a rigorous struggle ahead.
