Reports have emerged regarding the brutal late-night murder of a 78-year-old watchman by unidentified individuals. The victim was guarding equipment for a newly being-installed tube well located in a vacant plot behind a petrol pump on Patiala Road, situated along the Bathinda-Zirakpur National Highway passing through the local town. Providing details regarding this incident, Pragat Singh—son of Surjit Singh and nephew of the deceased, Ram Ji (son of Mehar Singh, a resident of Bald Kalan)—stated that his uncle, Ram Ji, was deployed as a watchman to guard the tube well equipment in the vacant plot behind a pesticide shop near a petrol pump on Patiala Road in Bhawanigarh.
He recounted that last night, while his uncle was performing his duty at the aforementioned location, some unidentified individuals brutally assaulted him, beating him to death. They then tied his body to a cot and fled the scene. He further explained that this morning, when workers operating the tube well installation machinery arrived at the plot to begin work, they discovered Ram Ji’s body lying on the cot. They immediately informed the family, who, in turn, notified the local police. A police team, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Satwant Singh, arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and initiated legal proceedings.
In this regard, Assistant Sub-Inspector Satwant Singh stated that the police have registered a case against unidentified individuals based on the statement provided by the deceased’s son, Sukhwinder Singh, and the body is being sent for a post-mortem examination. He added that CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined in an effort to identify and apprehend the accused.
