The Punjab and Haryana High Court has prohibited judges across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from utilizing ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools for drafting judgments or conducting legal research. The High Court has formally notified the District and Sessions Judges of both states and the Union Territory regarding this directive.
A letter issued by the High Court administration states that the Chief Justice has requested that judicial officers working under their supervision be directed to refrain from using any AI tools—including ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Meta, etc.—for the purpose of writing judgments or conducting legal research. Any violation of these orders will be viewed with utmost seriousness.
