Under a joint initiative launched by the District Administration in collaboration with officials from the Food and Supplies Department, a path has been paved to provide significant relief to the general public—particularly migrant laborers—who have been grappling with a shortage of LPG gas. As part of this initiative, any interested family within the Ludhiana district can now easily procure a 5-kilogram LPG gas cylinder at designated ration depots and petrol pumps.
It is noteworthy that in recent times, the severe shortage of LPG gas had compelled a large number of migrant laborers to begin returning to their native homes. This situation not only heightened the risk of business operations coming to a standstill due to labor shortages in industrial houses and factories, but also forced the closure of various small and large-scale establishments dependent on LPG gas—an impact that was directly felt across Punjab’s industrial hub.
Lakhbir Singh and Sartaj Singh Cheema, Controllers at the Food and Supplies Department, held a special meeting with dealers from various petrol pumps. During this meeting, the dealers pledged their full cooperation to the District Administration and agreed to maintain a designated stock of 5-kg FTL (Free Trade LPG) gas cylinders at their respective petrol pumps.
Controllers Lakhbir Singh and Sartaj Singh Cheema stated that in the event of a cylinder running empty, consumers can simply deposit their empty cylinder at the nearest petrol pump or ration depot to their home and immediately receive a refilled one in exchange. They further explained that the District Administration has formulated a highly simplified policy for consumers wishing to obtain a connection for the 5-kg gas cylinder; under this policy, a new gas connection will be issued to the consumer immediately upon submission of a copy of their Aadhaar card and a passport-sized photograph. They also clarified that these gas cylinders bear the ISI mark, signifying that they have undergone rigorous safety testing by the gas companies before being released into the market, and are therefore completely safe for use.
