A major update has emerged regarding the alleged custodial death of a young woman in the Dugri police station area in 2017. The Special CBI Court in Mohali has ordered the then SHO, Dalbir Singh, and his Reader, Manjit Singh, to face trial under various sections of the law.
The Honorable Court has summoned both accused individuals to appear before the Special CBI Court on May 1. They face serious charges, including illegal detention and tampering with evidence. Acting on orders from the High Court, the investigation into this case was handed over to the CBI on March 11, 2024, following which a fresh case was registered on May 10, 2024.
Sanction Denied for Action Against Two PPS Officers
Meanwhile, the State Government has refused to grant sanction for the prosecution of two other officers—the then ADCP Kuldeep Sharma and ACP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti—despite the CBI having named both in its chargesheet. These orders were issued on March 23 by the court of Special Judicial Magistrate Karanvir Singh Maju.
