In Haryana, more than 23 thousand families have risen above the poverty line in the new year, due to which the free ration given to them by the central government has been stopped. The number of poor increased in three districts of Haryana

While the number of BPL families has decreased in 19 districts, 2632 BPL families have increased in Karnal, Kurukshetra and Panipat districts. Families with an annual income of up to Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand in the state are considered BPL. According to the data of the Citizen Resource Information Department (CRID), about 70 percent of the population of the state is living below the poverty line.

Hisar has the highest number of people out of poverty line

There were 52 lakh 916 BPL families in the state till December 31, which came down to 51 lakh 78 thousand on January 31. In the last one month, Hisar has the highest number of more than 10 thousand families out of poverty line. BPL families have decreased in a total of 19 districts, while 573 in Karnal, 1251 in Kurukshetra and 808 new families in Panipat came under the BPL category.

There were 27 lakh BPL card holders in January 2022 and 31.59 lakh in January 2023 in the state. Between July and October 2024 last year, four lakh 84 thousand BPL card holders increased. There were 46.25 lakh BPL card holders in the state in July and 51.09 lakh in October. More than nine lakh BPL families increased in the first 10 months of the year 2024.

BPL families get many facilities

BPL families in Haryana get many types of facilities. Every month, five kg of grain is given free to every person. Along with this, two liters of mustard oil is given at the rate of Rs 40 per liter and one kg of sugar at the rate of Rs 13.5 per month.

The government has also announced to give a plot of 100 yards to every family in the rural area. Under the Ujjwala scheme, LPG cylinder is available for Rs 500 and under the Chirayu-Ayushman scheme, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh is available.
