Chandigarh CBI court has granted bail to ASI of Chandigarh Police arrested in bribery case. Accused ASI Sher Singh was accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a complainant in exchange for taking action in his favour.
On the complaint of complainant Devendra Singh Sandhu, CBI had registered a case on March 11 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It was told in the complaint that ASI Sher Singh, who was then posted at Sector-43 Bus Stand Police Outpost, had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh in exchange for help in the complaint lodged against him.
The complainant refused to give bribe and informed CBI about it. After this, CBI laid a trap and arrested accused ASI Sher Singh and a private person Rinku red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 54,400.
CBI presented the case in the court after the arrest. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, public prosecutor and defense, the court accepted the bail plea of ASI Sher Singh.
Bribe demanded in cheque bounce case
On the court’s order, Sector 36 police station had registered a case against Davinder Sandhu for forging signature on a cheque. The investigation of the case was given to ASI Sher Singh posted at Sector-43 outpost. When ASI investigated the case, Davinder Sandhu’s role was found suspicious. To settle the matter, Davinder Sandhu contacted Rinku, a resident of Kajheri. Rinku immediately talked to ASI Sher Singh regarding the case.
