There is good news for the patients coming to Chandigarh PGI for treatment. The new recruitment of 73 senior resident doctors in the hospital has been approved. This decision has been taken in the recent Governing Body meeting. These posts have been approved for non-DM / MCH category doctors in different departments of PGI.
Now this proposal will be sent by the Governing Body to the Ministry of Health along with the financial details. The recruitment process will be started as soon as the approval of the Expenditure Department of the Finance Ministry is received. The PGI administration says that with the appointment of new doctors, patients will not have to wait long for treatment and the workload on doctors will also be reduced.
Patients will benefit
PGI is a major referral hospital, where patients from many states of North India come for treatment. Due to limited staff, patients often have to face long waiting lists. In such a situation, increasing the number of doctors had become the need of the hour. Now with the new recruitment, patients will be able to get immediate treatment.
Apart from this, the appointment of 6 new senior doctors (senior resident) has also been approved in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) created for children under the Advanced Eye Center (AEC). For the last one year, there was a demand to increase the number of doctors in this unit. At present, the 8-bed HDU unit is running on the strength of only three senior resident doctors, who are taking care of the patients 24 hours a day.
Treatment of diseases like ROP, cataract and glaucoma will be accelerated
According to the department, there is a rapid increase in cases of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), retina diseases, cataract and glaucoma in newborns. Such children need special care in the HDU unit, so permission has been given to increase the number of doctors.
The PGI administration is confident that after the approval from the Health Ministry, approval will be received from the Finance Ministry soon and the recruitment process can be started immediately. Patients will get great benefit from this and the efficiency of the institute will also increase.
