Jalandhar: A gunman assigned to IAS officer Babita Kaler allegedly shot a man in Punjab’s Chhoti Baradari area. The victim, identified as Harpreet Singh, works as a manager in an industrial house and sustained injuries after being hit by bullets in both legs.
The Jalandhar police have filed an FIR against Babita Kaler, her husband Steven Kaler (an Aam Aadmi Party leader), and the gunman Sukhkaran Singh. The FIR includes charges of attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, and offenses related to firearms.
The Dispute Over Land and Soil Dumping
Karanjit Singh Kang, whose family owns a steel company named Prabal TMT, stated that the disputed land is located near Babita Kaler’s residence. Karanjit had instructed his workers to begin soil filling on their plot.
As the tractors and trolleys carrying the soil reached the site, Steven Kaler allegedly stopped them, asking them to first speak with the landowner. The workers then called Karanjit’s father, Sulakhan Singh, who spoke to Steven and clarified that the land belongs to their family. He instructed them to continue the work.
Later, manager Harpreet Singh was sent to the site. However, Steven Kaler and Babita Kaler reportedly refused to allow the soil dumping. During the heated argument, both allegedly instructed the gunman to shoot Harpreet. The gunman then fired from his pistol, hitting Harpreet in both legs.
The injured Harpreet was rushed to a private hospital, and the police were informed of the incident.
