Barnala, Punjab – In a heart-wrenching tragedy from Punjab’s Barnala district, a couple was burnt alive after a fire broke out in their home early Tuesday morning. The incident took place in village Moon in the Mahalkalan constituency. The shocking aspect: while the husband and wife perished in the fire, their 10-year-old son miraculously survived without a scratch, as he was sleeping at his uncle’s house that night.
🔥 How Did the Incident Happen?
According to the family and police sources, the victims – Jagrup Singh, son of Labh Singh, and his wife Angrez Kaur – had been sleeping outside due to the summer heat. However, around 3 AM, a sudden downpour forced them indoors to their bedroom.
Moments later, a fire broke out inside the room, allegedly caused by a short circuit, trapping the couple.

His wife Angrez Kaur was rushed to Barnala Civil Hospital, and later referred to Faridkot Medical Center due to critical burns. Unfortunately, she was declared brought dead upon arrival.
👦 Son Survives, Family Devastated
The couple’s 10-year-old son escaped the tragedy because he was sleeping at his uncle’s house that night. He is physically unharmed, but the emotional trauma of losing both parents in a single night will cast a long shadow over his young life.
Now, the family consists only of the child and his elderly grandfather, who were both staying at a relative’s home when the fire occurred.

Initial police investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit triggered the fire. Heavy rainfall may have disrupted the wiring system, resulting in the sudden ignition within the bedroom.
SHO Kiranjit Kaur of the local police station confirmed:
“Our preliminary findings indicate a short circuit as the probable cause. A full investigation is currently underway.”
