For the last few days, such news has been going viral on social media and some media reports were spreading that now 500 rupee notes will not be available from ATMs. Many people got upset with this news and they thought whether 500 rupee notes are also going to be banned? But now the government has told the whole truth on this in Parliament – and the relief is that nothing like this is going to happen.
Clear answer of the government and RBI
The Finance Ministry told the Parliament that there is no plan to ban 500 rupee notes. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will ensure that all types of notes – whether 100, 200 or 500 – are available in the market so that people do not face any problem. However, the focus of the government now is that small notes, like 100 and 200 rupees, should be easily available to maximum number of people. Therefore, RBI has told banks and ATM companies that by 30 September 2025, at least 75% of the notes in the ATM should be small notes (100 and 200). This has been done so that in future you will easily get small notes from the ATM, so that it is easy to make everyday purchases and small expenses.
Will 500 notes be banned? No! Absolutely not. The government has said that 500 rupee notes are not being banned. These notes will continue to be used, and their distribution will also continue as before.
