Due to continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh, the amount of rainwater coming towards Punjab has increased rapidly. Due to the water released from Bhakra Dam and the rise in the Swan river, there is a threat of flood in many low-lying areas of Punjab.
Flow of water: Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has confirmed the release of 45 thousand cusecs of water. This water is mixing with the water of Sutlej river at a place called ‘Dumel’ near Sri Anandpur Sahib, due to which the flow has become even faster.
Effect up to Rupnagar Headworks: According to officials, the effect of the flash flood in the Swan river is likely to reach Rupnagar Headworks by late night. If this speed continues, then a serious situation may arise in the low-lying areas of Punjab by tomorrow morning.
Elgran bridge closed: After the news of the collapse of the pillars of Elgran bridge on Kalman-Nangal road, the bridge has been completely closed. Earlier this bridge was closed only for heavy vehicles, but now all types of traffic have been stopped. The administration has appealed to the people of the villages situated on the banks of the river to be cautious and has said that they should make proper security arrangements. At the same time, Gaurav Rana and his companions who arrived from Nurpurbedi have said that the local social welfare organizations are fully prepared to help in any need.
