Chandigarh police has arrested a colonel who kept misleading the police department by posing as a fake colonel for about a year and kept ruling the department. The accused has been identified as Ganesh Bhatt, who not only kept visiting police stations wearing uniform, but also kept getting salutes from the policemen. The shocking thing is that the fake colonel gained such a status among the police that even a woman constable fell prey to his trickery. She gave five lakh rupees to the accused in the name of getting a job for her relative. When the truth started coming out after the promise was not fulfilled, Ganesh Bhatt had absconded.
Sources reveal that the accused often used to visit police stations with an inspector and the policemen kept getting impressed by him without any doubt. Now the question arises that why did no one investigate his uniform and status for such a long time. Finally, after the crime branch received information, the accused has been arrested from Panchkula.
There was a scuffle between the police and the accused during the arrest. Ganesh Bhatt’s family has alleged that after the arrest, the accused was kept in the custody of the Crime Branch, where he was beaten up. It is alleged that he was not even given water and he has suffered serious injuries in his ears, eyes, other parts of the body including private parts.
