Roads and streets were flooded, due to which normal life was completely disrupted. Amidst these dire circumstances, the system of draining water from the city got an even bigger setback when the sewerage employees who were on strike cut off the power supply of the motors of the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) Center located on Bajakhana Road. Due to this move, the drainage of the city came to a complete halt, causing flood-like conditions in the low-lying areas.
Sewerage Board official confirmed, people angry
Sewerage Board XEN Sukhwinder Singh Dhaliwal confirmed this incident. He said that the employees deliberately switched off the power of the motors, due to which rainwater started accumulating inside the city. The city residents expressed deep anger over this. He said that due to the arbitrariness of some people and mutual disputes, the entire city is facing this disaster. People demanded immediate action from the administration and raised the question whether the entire city would be allowed to submerge in water due to the stubbornness of some people? Water entered houses and shops in various parts of the city. People going to work in the morning and school children faced huge difficulties as the roads were completely submerged. Traffic came to a complete standstill, and many vehicles got stuck in the middle of the roads.
