After Gurwinder Singh was publicly shot dead in Manki village of Samrala, Ludhiana, anger is boiling over in the village. On Wednesday, villagers staged a protest in Samrala with slogans demanding “Justice for the Kabaddi player.” Meanwhile, Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav claimed in a press conference that Gurwinder was not a Kabaddi player. The police said, “Go and ask in the village, he was fond of pigeon breeding.” This statement by the SSP has further escalated the controversy. Villagers and the family say that Gurwinder played Kabaddi in local villages and nearby tournaments. Pigeon breeding was certainly his hobby, but he was active on the field, and that’s how he was known in the village. After the murder, Gurwinder’s body was kept at the Civil Hospital in Samrala. The family refused to perform the last rites, saying that they would not do so until the murderers are arrested. After the protest, the police asked the villagers for 24 hours. This deadline expired at 12 PM today.
Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav says that special police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused. These include SP (Investigation) Pawanjeet, DSP (Investigation) Mohit Singla, DSP Samrala Tarlochan Singh, CIA Staff in-charge Narpinderpal Singh, and Samrala Police Station SHO Pavitra Singh. The police are continuously focusing on the CCTV surveillance system to track the movement of the accused. The investigation team first determined the direction in which the accused fled by piecing together the chain of CCTV footage, and then, with the help of CCTV cameras installed along that route, reached the locations where they took refuge after the murder. Investigating officers say that more than 50 kilometers of area has been scanned so far. Teams are still reviewing footage from new camera points to track the complete escape route and identify the perpetrators. It should be noted that the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder of kabaddi player Gurwinder Singh in Samrala through a social media post. The post stated that Gurwinder was supporting their enemies, which led to the attack. The post also threatened others, warning that anyone associated with their enemies would face similar consequences. According to reports, Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Manki village, was riding a motorcycle with his friend Dharampal when the attackers opened fire on them. Gurwinder died on the spot, while Dharampal was seriously injured.
