An unusual case has come to light in Chandigarh, where an advocate has applied to the police seeking permission to beat up his neighbor. The lawyer has sent this application not only to the police but also to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Home Secretary, the DGP, the SSP, and the Bar Council Chairman.
The lawyer claims that his neighbor deliberately damaged his new Thar car. He says that a complaint was filed with the police regarding this, but no FIR has been registered yet.
He has argued that according to the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), if the police fail to take action, a person has the right to self-defense or to take retaliatory measures. On this basis, he has sought legal permission to teach his neighbor a lesson. Meanwhile, the police have refused to comment on the matter.
