The court of Honorable District and Additional Sessions Judge Bishan Sarup has convicted an accused named by the City South Police Station for raping a 10-year-old child approximately one and a half years ago, based on evidence and witnesses. The court sentenced the accused to 20 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 rupees. Failure to pay the fine as ordered by the court will result in an additional one year in prison.
On January 5, 2024, the father of the 10-year-old victim filed a complaint with the City South Police Station, stating that on the day of the incident, Navpreet Singh, alias Ravi, an e-rickshaw driver living in their area, lured his child into his e-rickshaw with the promise of a kite and string, took him into a room, and raped him.
His child tearfully recounted the entire incident to him. Upon receiving this information, the police got the child medically examined and on January 5, 2024, a case was registered against Navpreet Singh alias Ravi under various sections including the POCSO Act.
