Poonch Police arrested three members of the Gopi/Ghanshyam Puria gang and put them behind bars, along with cash and weapons. Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a special checkpoint at Mirza Mod on the Jammu-Poonch National Highway in Surankote tehsil late last night, in the presence of the SDPO Surankote and the Station House Officer Surankote. Meanwhile, the police stopped a private vehicle and began checking it. A search of the three occupants of the vehicle yielded two pistols, some ammunition, and ₹218,000. Subsequently, the police brought the three criminals to the police station for questioning. They were identified as Kanwaljit Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, resident of Dharmu Chak, Amritsar district; Mandeep Singh, alias Sidhu, son of Jaswant Singh, village Jilwali, Amritsar district; and Harmanpreet Singh, son of Kewal Singh, village Bujiwali, Gurdaspur district.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Mohan Sharma, said, “We received information that some gangsters from Punjab were going to pass through here. We immediately took action, set up checkpoints, and apprehended three active gangsters from Punjab. The ASP said that the police have registered a case and initiated action.”
