The Municipal Corporation has finally begun action against several colonies that have been illegally developed in Jalandhar West for a long time. Until now, the corporation had not taken any strict action against these colonies, but after a complaint from RTI activist Karanpreet Singh, the corporation swung into action and issued notices to all three illegal colonies.
The first illegal colony was illegally developed under high-tension lines near 120-foot Road, Sher Singh Colony. This area is considered highly sensitive, yet no departmental officials took any action for a long time. Another illegal colony was developed on Kala Sanghian Road near Chopra Colony, where plots were being sold without any approval or map approval.
Another new colony was being rapidly developed near Pink City Colony in the same area, against which several complaints had been lodged. Following repeated complaints from RTI activist Karanpreet Singh, the corporation has issued notices to the three colonizers, demanding they submit documents, NOCs, and related approvals. The corporation has issued a clear warning that if the documents are not submitted within the stipulated time, strict action will be taken under the PAPRA Act. Sources suggest that these colonies may be bulldozed if the documents are not submitted.
