WhatsApp and other messaging apps are in for a major shock, with a major change imminent.

Date:

Important news has emerged for those using messaging apps, including WhatsApp and Telegram. It is being reported that the central government is preparing to implement new regulations on messaging apps to strengthen digital security and online verification. These regulations will directly impact millions of Indian users of all messaging platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram.

According to the government’s proposed guidelines, all messaging apps operating in the country will now be required to link their users’ accounts to an active SIM card. If a user changes their SIM or the SIM card becomes inactive, the associated app will automatically stop working.

Messaging apps will now operate at the discretion of the SIM.

Following the new regulations, apps like WhatsApp and Telegram will only verify your identity based on an active mobile number. Chat, login, and device access will be immediately suspended upon SIM change. The government argues that this will curb fake accounts operating on fake numbers. Major Change for WhatsApp Web Users

The government has also tightened its web login system. Now, all web sessions will auto-logout every six hours. Users will be required to re-authenticate by scanning a QR code each time they login.

Mandatory Key Re-Verification

The government has directed all messaging platforms to require their users to re-verify their numbers every 90 days. This will prevent those who misuse accounts by creating temporary numbers, fake SIM cards, or closed numbers. These accounts are often used for cybercrime, fraud, and threats.

New Rules to Be Implemented Within 90 Days

The government has given companies 90 days to update their systems and make technical changes to comply with the new rules. After this, these rules will be implemented compulsorily across the country.
